Patsy Beattie-Huggan of The Quaich was recently invited to coordinate and participate in a round table forum in Brazil. The forum took place at the 10th ABECAN X Congress (Brazilian Association for Canadian Studies), an international bi-annual event at the Federal University of Goias from November 17th to 20th 2009. ABECAN works to enrich and contribute towards education exchanges between universities in Canada and Brazil.

This event was attended by 800 academics, students and experts. With its two broad themes of Diversity and Dialogue the aim of the congress was to create a place where participants could gain knowledge and contribute to a better educational, linguistic, political economic and social understanding of Brazil and Canada. During the round table forum Patsy shared insights gained from her 2008 experience as a technical advisor to the Intersectoral Action for Health Project (2006-2009) implemented in Brazil by the Canadian Public Health Agency and funded by the Canadian International Development Agency. She was also invited by two of the local project teams from Goiania and Sobral to share her knowledge and experience in applying the Circle of Health© with community agents, health officials, students and teachers at the Federal University of Goiás and University of Brasilia. The Circle of Health is a health promotion tool and framework developed in PEI and in use nationally and internationally. Discussions are underway to continue work with the Circle of Health in Brazil.
